I Wayan Gede Arsana Berkarya dan Berkolaborasi
Nama I Wayan Gede Arsana sudah tidak asing lagi di kalangan seniman tradisional Bali. Pria kelahiran Denpasar, 12 Oktober 1974 ini merupakan seniman karawitan yang suka berkolaborasi dengan pemusik luar daerah atau luar negeri. Karya seninya juga tak bisa dihitung dengan jari. Maklum, sejak menjadi siswa SMKI (kini SMKN 3 Sukawati), ia sudah mulai berkarya. Apalagi, ketika mengenyam pendidikan seni di jenjang perkuliahan di ISI Denpasar, ide-idenya begitu aktual, olahan nada tak begitu rumit, namun enak didengar. Maka tak heran, saat menata tabuh untuk lomba, ia sering tampil sebagai juara.
Pria yang tinggal di Jalan Trenggana No 10, Banjar Paang Kelod, Kelurahan Penatih, Kecamatan Denpasar Timur sejak kecil sudah dekat dengan alat musik tradisional Bali itu. Pada masa anak-anak, waktunya lebih banyak untuk bermain instrument tradisional Bali. Sebut saja, ketika ia duduk di kelas I SD, ia bersama anak-anak lainnya lebih banyak bergaul dengan alat music gamelan gong kebyar. Kebetulan gamelan itu disimpan di balai banjar, sehingga bisa dimainkan setiap saat. “Mungkin karena kebiasaan itu, saya diajak ikut bergabung dalam kelompok Sekaa Gong Anak-anak Swasti Dharma Santhi Banjar Paang Kelod, Penatih,” katanya kalem.
Hampir setahun belajar memainkan gamelan, Gede demikian sapaan akarabnya kemudian mulai mengenal pangung pentas dengan memainkan gamelan gong kebyar. Ia membawakan Tabuh Kreasi Gita Utsawa serta mengiringi tari-tarian lepas, juga beberapa iringan sendratari, seperti Sendratari Sri Tanjung, Lahirnya Sang Berata, dan Sakuntala. Saat itu, ia bertugas memainkan instrumen kecek yang merupakan penabuh paling kecil, diantara anggota sekaa gong kala itu. Dalam gending Gita Utsawa, ia dituntut untuk bisa memainkan kecek sekaligus menari. Tari yang ia lakukan ditata khusus, sehingga selalu mendapat sambutan hangat, baik dalam pentas di banjar ataupun dalam ngayah. “Jujur, saya memiliki kenangan tersendiri pada waktu itu,” kenang bangga.
Seni yang dimiliki, terus berkembang hingga ia menjadi siswa di SMP Widya Sakti Penatih. Gede menjadi penabuh inti yang tampil dalam Pekan Seni Remaja (PSR). Hampir setiap tahun ajang itu diikutnya, sehingga kegiatan berkesenian lebih banyak dilakukan dari pada kegiatan lainnya. “Saya ingin menjadi seorang composer, sehingga melanjutkan di SMKI. Saya memilih sekolah karena terinspirasi dari seniman I Wayan Beratha, I Gst Ngurah Padang dan I Ketut Gde Asnawa. Tiga maestro ini tak pernah bosan-bosannya melatih anak muda. Mereka tak hanya menstranfer ilmu seni, tetapi juga membuat orang tertarik mengikuti jejaknya,” beber pria yang suka jalan-jalan ini.
Pengalaman yang membuatnya paling bahagia, yaitu ketika menutnut ilmu di SMKI. Gede langsung mendapat kepercayaan menata tabuh bleganjur di daerah Kintamani. Awalnya tegang juga, karena baru pertama kali menata tabuh, namun karena didorong keberanian dan rasa percaya diri, ia akhirnya mampu menyelesaikan karya tabuh bleganjur. Setelah itu, ia didapuk menggarap iringan sendratari, bleganjur juga iringan tari untuk kakak kelas yang mengikuti ujian serta menggarap tabuh untuk ujian sendiri. “Saya merasa yakin dengan pilihan seni, sehingga ingin memperdalam pada pendidikan yang lebih tinggi. Itu juga alasan melanjutkan di STSI (kini ISI) Denpasar,” imbuhnya.
Di lembaga pendidikan seni itu, seniman yang suka memainkan alat music daerah lain itu mendapat kesempatan menabuh di luar negari, tepatnya di Taiwan. Ia bertugas memainkan jegog, rindik, gong kebyar dan bleganjur. Selanjutnya menjadi duta seni yang tampil di Swiss, Athena (Yunani), Asia Selatan (Maldiv), Arab, dan Jepang. Sementara di dalam negeri, ia telah mengunjungi berbagai daerah di Indonesia. “Saat itu, ada yang pentas murni, ada pula untuk menggarap tabuh sebagai iringan tari, serta melatih gamelan di daerah transmigran,” ujarnya.
Sebagai anak muda kreatif, Gede Arsana selalu ringan tangan untuk melatih anak-anak memainkan gamelan. Ia juga aktif di banjarnya, serta rajin membantu sekaa gong desa lain untuk melatih ataupun membuat tabuh. Sejak 1999, ia kemudian dipercaya menjadi penata tabuh langganan PKB hingga sekarang. Ia menata tabuh Sandya Gita untuk Duta Kota Denpasar. Juga menata iringan pragmentari untuk Duta Karangasem. Selain itu, ia juga membuat dua iringan untuk untuk ujian komposisi Mahasiswa ISI Denpasar dan membuat iringan tari duta pelajar Provinsi Bali.
Setelah menyandang gelar Sarjana Seni (S.Sn), guru seni karawitan SMK Negeri 5 Denpasar ini lebih sering menggarap karawitan. Menurutnya, dalam menggarap tabuh itu pertama kali harus ada ide. Kemudian mencari inspirasi, membuat notasi baru kemudian dituangkan kepada penabuh. Terkadang juga tanpa ada notasi, artinya datang secara spontan. Khusus membuat iringan tari, harus ada pembabakan terkait karakter penokohan. Khusus untuk menata Sandya Gita biasanya terinpirasi dari koor. “Sandya gita itu harus menyatu antara komposisi olah vocal, karawitan dan instrumental. Pengalaman yang sulit saya lupakan, ketika berkolaborasi dengan seniman asing, seperti dari Amerika, Jepang, Cheko, Jerman, Thailand dan Taiwan. Itu tantangan yang luar biasa,” paparnya serius.
Jika dibandingkan antara menata tabuh ataupun iringan tari, dari pada berkolaborasi dengan seniman asing, ia mengaku kolaborasi yang paling menantang. Terutama dalam memadukan instrumen gamelan dan non gamelan atau pentatonis dan diatoni, dimana ia tidak memiliki latar belakang musik itu. “Berkolaborasi itu sangat menarik kita dipaksa untuk mengetahui alat musik mereka, sehingga bisa menyelaraskan atau menggabungkan untuk menjadi sebuah musik yang memiliki warna baru. Pastinya, beda dan lebih menarik untuk didengarkan,” ungkapnya.
Pria yang suka dengan kegiatan spiritual ini banyak sekali menghasilkan karya seni, diantaranya Musik Eksperiment Gamelan Non Gamelan “Moha” (2002), Tabuh Gong Kebyar Pepanggulan Vokal PKB Duta Kota Denpasa (2012), Cak inovatif Kolosal “Sanghyang Legong” (2016), Cak Kolosal Inovatif “Cupu Manik Astagina” (2017), Adi Merdangga Pembukaan PKB “Siwa Nata Raja” (2013), Sendratari “Sutasoma Mahotama” Taman Mini Indonesia Indah Jakarta (2016), Iringan Tari “Manik Angkeran” Surabaya (1999), Tabuh Kreasi Gong Kebyar “Meka” PKB (2014). Pragmen Tari Anak-anak “I Lutung.
Pria yang masih lajang ini, juga pernah menggarap musikalisasi “Sumpah Kumbakarna” kolaborasi dengan Putri Suasti Koster yang didukung siswa Seni Karawitan SMK Negeri 5 Denpasar, Iringan Tari Lrgong Kreasi Legong Lontar, Iringan Tari Melayu Pecut, Iringan Tari Maskot SMP Negeri 2 Widya Nrtrya. Iringan Tari “Satya Wireng” Penabuh Desa Pedungan Denpasar, dan banyak lagi lainnya. Dari pengalaman itu, ia telah telah mengumpulkan segudang piagam penghargaan. Selamat berkarya Gede Arsana….!
