Kenyataan itu mendorongnya untuk terus melestarikan kesenian yang menjadi warisan nenek moyangnya. “Ketika masih anak-anak, saya ikut belajar menari Bali. Guru pertama saya adalah kakak sendiri yang berprofesi sebagai dosen di Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Solo di Surakarta, Jawa Tengah,” kata Suarnadwipa.
Pada saat masih berumur 12 tahun, putra dari pasangan I Ketut Pande (alm.) dan Ni Wayan Suwenten (alm.) itu begitu tekun berlatih tari, sehingga menonjol diantara anak-anak lainnya. Ia kemudian dipercaya dan aktif menari Wayang Wong untuk ritual di Desa Tejakula. Pengalaman itu memberikan semangat untuk menjaga kesenian klasik dan langka di Bali Utara itu. Desa Tejakula yang terletak di kawasan timur Kabupaten Buleleng itu, memiliki sekitar 80 topeng sakral yang distanakan di Pura Maksan desa setempat. Sementara jumlah sekaa sekitar 180 orang termasuk pengayah (penari) dan penabuh. Selain topeng yang sakral, Desa Tejakula juga memiliki duplikat topeng yang sering dipentaskan untuk hiburan. Suarnadwipa juga aktif dalam ngayah dalam sekaa gong kebyar. “Kalau pementasan Wayang Wong dengan menggunakan topeng (tapel) yang sakral pasti dipentaskan di Pura Maksan yang digelar setiap setahun sekali, tepatnya pada Umanis Galungan dan Pahing Galungan,” sebutnya.
Sementara untuk pementasan di Pura Kahyangan Tiga dilaksanakan pada waktu upacara Dangsil dan Ngenemang. Topeng sakral di Pura Maksan itu beragam. Selain topeng tokoh-tokoh penting dalam cerita Ramayana, juga terdapat berbagai topeng tokoh pendukung dalam cerita klasik itu. Topeng-topeng itu antara lain, untuk di pihaik Rama ada topeng Rama, Laksmana, Wibisana, Sugriwa, Subali, Anggada, Susena, Nila, Nala, Gawa, Gawaksa. Juga dua punakawan Tualen dan Wana (di Bali Selatan disebut Merdah). Sementara Di pihak Rahwana terdapat topeng Rahwana, Kumbakarna, Patih Prasta, Akempana, Meganada, Surpenaka, Pregasa dan lain-lain dengan punakawan Delem dan Sangut. Di luar tokoh-tokoh penting itu ada juga topeng babi, gajah dan topeng hewan lain, termasuk berbagai bentuk wajah kera yang dalam cerita ada di pihak Rama.
Setamat SMP di Tejakula pada 1977, putra ke delapan dari sembilan bersaudara ini lalu melanjutkan pendidikan ke Konservatori Karawitan (Kokar) yang kemudian berganti menjadi Sekolah Menengah Karawitan Indonesia (SMKI) dan kini SMK Negeri 3 Sukawati. Begitu menginjakan kaki di sekolah seni milik masyarakat Bali itu, ia langsung mendapat kesempatan untuk turut tampil dalam pementasan sekolah. Sebut saja pentas sendratari serangkaian Pesta Kesenian Bali (PKB). Pada saat Kokar menyajikan sendratari dengan cerita Epos Mahaberata, ia dipercaya tampil memeran sebagai raksasa, pertapa, hingga Patih Widura.
Suarnadwipa juga rajin mengikuti kegiatan ngayah bersama teman-temannya. Kegiatan ngayah itu dilakukan hampir di seluruh Bali dengan menarikan legong dan kesenian lainnya. Dalam kegiatan itu, ia menerapakan p-epatah “sambil menyelam minum air” yakni ngayah menari sambil belajar. Ia banyak belajar dari teman-temannya, demikian sebaliknya. Saat menjadi siswa mereka saling berbagai ilmu, sehingga selain menambah kemampuan berkesenian juga membuat persahabatan mereka semakin kental.
Tamat dari SMKI Denpasar pada tahun 1982, Suarnadwipa melanjutkan pendidikan ke Akademi Seni Tari Indonesia (ASTI) Denpasar. Ketika menempuh pendidikan tinggi di kampus seni itu, sudah mendapatkan kepercayaan dari Pemerintah Kabupaten Buleleng untuk membuat sejumlah garapan, antara lain sebagai pembina Tari Goak-Goakan dengan peserta lomba dari berbagai daerah di Bali dan pembina Tari Kebyar Terompong. “Walau menimba ilmu di Kota Denpasar, saya sangat aktif organisasi sosial, khususnya sekaa seni yang ada di Tejakula,” sebutnya.
Bersama Komang Suwirni, istrinya, ia pernah tampil dalam festival seni di Jakarta. Selain sebagai seniman, ia yang berstatus sebagai Pegawai Negeri Sipil (PNS) atau Aparatur Sipil Negara (ASN) ini juga sempat menjadi pengajar di SMKN 3 Sukawati sejak 1989. Pada tahun 1996, dia menjadi Penilik Kebudayaan di Kecamatan Sawan Kabupaten Buleleng. Sempat pula menjadi sekretaris lurah selama satu tahun, serta selanjutnya bertugas di Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Kabupaten Buleleng hingga pensiun.
Dalam kesehariannya sebagai abdi negara, Suarnadwipa juga melahirkan sejumlah garapan fragmentari, antara lain berjudul Perang Puputan Jagaraga, Jayaprana, Dharma Suami, Patih Sudarsana, dan Ramayana. Ia mengadakan lawatan ke Jeju, Korea Selatan membawa misi kesenian Bali dengan mementaskan sendratari Jayaprana (2005). Bersama sejumlah seniman, ia berkesempatan menyajikan Wayang Wong di Swedia selama sepuluh hari. Bersama lima rekannya dari luar Desa Tejakula, ia membentuk Sanggar Topeng Sundari Bajra yang mengajarkan Tari Topeng Bondres dan Tari Sidakarya (2005). Sebelumnya, dari 2001, Suarnadwipa bergabung dalam Sanggar Dwi Mekar.
Kini, ia menjadi salah satu penerus yang mempertahankan eksistensi wayang wong Tejakula, selain beberapa tokoh pendahulunya, diantaranya Drs. Nyoman Witastra (Bapak Tusan Alm.), Gede Sujana Kompyang, Gede Putu Tirta Ngis, Ketut Mulya Kompyang dan lainnya juga warga Desa Tejakula. “Wayang Wong bukan hanya sebagai sebuah peninggalan yang sakral, namun juga sebagai sebuah bentuk seni yang terus-menerus bisa dikembangkan. Kemungkinan punahnya Wayang Wong di Tejakula cukup sulit, karena memang disakralkan dan selalu dipentaskan ketika ada ritual tertentu. Karena itu, kami tetap berusaha untuk melakukan regenerasi,” ucapnya.

Peran Delem dalam cerita Wayang Wong termasuk peran yang berat, karena di samping menari juga harus menerjemahkan bahasa Kawi dari para pemain. Dalam beberapa kali penampilan di ajang PKB, peran Delem selalu dilakoninya. Dalam ajang PKB tahun 2021, dengan garapan berjudul Rahwana Rumaksa Bhuwana, Suarnadwipa kembali berperan sebagai Delem.
Tak hanya Suarnadwipa, istri, anak dan menantunya juga aktif menggeluti kesenian Bali. Ia sangat berharap agar pemerintah tetap memperhatikan kesenian-kesenian klasik Bali seperti halnya Wayang Wong dengan memunculkannya dalam PKB maupun gelaran kesenian ditingkat kabupaten. “Dengan langkah tersebut, saya yakin dapat menjadi perangsang bagi generasi muda untuk terus melestarikan kesenian wayang wong,” usulnya.
Segala dedikasi Suarnadwipa dalam pelestarian kesenian Wayang Wong Tejakula, ia dianugrahi Penghargaan Seni Wija Kusuma dari Pemerintah Kabupaten Buleleng (2016). Ia dianggap berperan serta dan memberikan sumbangsih kepada daerah melalui hasil karya serta pengabdian terhadap perkembangan seni budaya.
